Making Music 4 Fun Classes

This interactive family music program is designed to introduce young children (babies, toddlers & preschoolers aged 0 - 5 years) to the pleasures of making music together with their parents, carers & peers in a fun, nurturing & non-competitive learning environment.

We believe that every child is innately musical and will naturally move to the beat, sing their own little songs and use their imaginations to make instruments out of anything! We also believe that children gain a greater awareness of musical concepts through the physical act of “doing”, i.e. making music for themselves, rather than passively receiving music via a CD or TV.

Therefore, our mixed age music classes use live music making (accompanied by guitar/vocals/tuned percussion) & age-appropriate activities to encourage your child’s creativity & musical exploration including:

  • singing familiar songs
  • dancing & movement
  • instrumental play - little ones love exploring our professional percussion instruments including gathering drums, hand drums, bells, maracas, castanets, tambourines, triangles, woodblocks, finger cymbals, guiros and more!
  • musical games
  • a variety of multisensory activities using scarves, finger puppets, hula hoops, small bean bags, feathers, pom poms, picture boards, musical story books, a colourful parachute & bubbles.

We have an exciting new theme EACH week! See Fees & Class Timetable for more information about how to enrol or attend a trial class.

Your enthusiastic participation & encouragement are of course the most important ingredients to your child's enjoyment of music..... and no matter what age, children love to sing & dance - anytime/anywhere! Here are some ideas for making music at home.

Why group music making is good for your children's health & well-being

Research shows that making music can reduce stress, enhance your mood, increase energy levels, motivate & empower us, provide opportunities to connect with others & stimulate all the senses!

Introducing your child to group music making when they are young can provide little ones with opportunities to:

  • make (loud!) noise and express themselves musically in their own unique way. Children often do not have the words to express themselves & need positive ways to release their emotions & pent-up energy!
  • develop important social skills (such as learning to respond to others, listen, share, take turns) which helps their confidence in group & social situations;
  • develop verbal and communication skills whilst helping to reinforce new concepts (e.g learning to count, learning the alphabet);
  • develop greater body awareness & gross/fine motor skills;
  • develop hand-eye coordination;
  • begin to discriminate between high/low sounds, loud/soft, fast/slow and go/stop;
  • and of course, have fun playing with other kids in a fun learning environment!

The Making Music 4 Fun program is also available for Playgroups & Mother's Groups and Kindergartens & Childcare Centres
