About Us

 

Janine Shearer is a Registered Music Therapist with the Australian Music Therapy Association & an enthusiastic presenter specialising in early childhood, family centred & community-based music programs. She is passionate about the positive benefits that actively making music can have on an individual's health & well-being and is committed to delivering creative & innovative programs that are accessible to people of all ages and abilities.

Classically trained on the flute & piano, she completed her Bachelor of Music Therapy (Honours) at the University of Melbourne (2005), and has over 30 years experience in music performance and education*.

 

Janine has worked with individuals & groups to achieve therapeutic goals through music making, improvisation, instrumental play, song-writing, therapeutic music lessons, musical reminiscence, movement and relaxation activities. Her clinical music therapy experience has been in parent/child community programs, early intervention & special development schools, nursing homes & hostels, and an adult oncology hospital.

  

Janine launched her family-centred Making Music 4 Fun program in 2010 with regular weekly classes on the Northern Beaches (Sydney). The program has also expanded to kindergartens & childcare centres, playgroups and mother's groups. She also holds an annual Making Music 4 Fun event for families as part of the Music Council of Australia's national Making Music Being Well initiative that celebrates the links between making music and feeling good.

 

Janine also has a Bachelor of Economics (Macquarie University) and over 10 year’s business experience in change management, program coordination, training and education (both locally and overseas).

  • touring with amateur & semi-professional music groups nationally & internationally (including the Brass Machine Big Band & the Sydney Northern Beaches Symphonic Wind Ensemble); 
  • performing in various amateur theatre company orchestras; 
  • providing instrumental tuition (flute, piano & guitar) and music & movement (Dalcroze Eurhythmics) classes to children/adults (Registered AMEB instrumental teacher 1985); &
  • leading the early childhood music therapy program Music Together at various locations throughout Melbourne - a program designed to enhance family relationships, attachment and communication between parents and young children and social supports through music, instrument play, drama, dance and other creative arts.
